On my first mock draft I’ll be making the picks according to what I think teams should do. Basically I’m putting myself in the shoes of every GM around the league. Keep in mind that fit is considered as a big factor in the picks, so you’ll see some players go before than others, not because they’re better but because they fit that team better.
I hope you enjoy.
*Means the trade was made in this mock draft
- Joe Burrow – QB – LSU – Bengals
Easy pick, after being the worst team in the league the Bengals take their future franchise QB, who’s also one of the best QB prospects ever.
2. Chase Young – EDGE – Ohio State – Redskins
Even though the Redskins already have a good group in this position, Young is the best prospect I’ve ever seen and passing on him is practically impossible.
3. Jeffrey Okudah – CB – Ohio State – Lions
Although the Lions would love to trade down, they won’t be able to find a trade partner, and they end up taking one of the best CB prospects in the past decade.
4. Isaiah Simmons – LB – Clemson – Giants
The Giants need a LB desperately, luckily enough they find one of the most versatile players the draft has ever seen.
5. Justin Herbert – QB- Oregon – Dolphins
I know what you’re thinking, why not Tua? Well according to Matt Miller and other sources he has failed physical tests for multiple teams and if a player fails his physical test he can’t play. After passing on Tua because of health concerns, the Dolphins are still able to land their future franchise QB.
6. Andrew Thomas – OT- Georgia – Chargers
Another team that passes on Tua because of health concerns. They still get a very good player, and their franchise LT for the future.
7. Javon Kinlaw – DT – South Carolina – Panthers
Although it might be a bit of a reach, the Panthers will be getting a phenomenal player who’s going to give them their 100% every play.
8. Tristan Wirfs – OT – Iowa – Cardinals
After getting Deandre Hopkins in a trade, WR is no longer a need for the Cardinals so they’re able to get some protection for Kyler Murray.
9. Derrick Brown – DT – Auburn – Jaguars
With their first pick in the first round, the Jaguars get their future leader of the defensive line, trying to rebuild what was once not so long ago the best defense in football.
10. Jedrick Wills Jr – OT – Alabama – Browns
After an extremely disappointing season, the Browns bolster their offensive line by adding a former Alabama star, in an attempt to protect Baker Mayfield.
11. Mekhi Becton – OT – Louisville – Jets
For two straight years the Jets have had arguably the worst offensive line in the NFL. Getting someone like Becton gives Sam Darnold and Le’Veon Bell a chance to reach their full potential.
12. Jerry Jeudy – WR – Alabama – Raiders
After having a bottom 3 WR group last year the Raiders need to take one in the first round. Luckily enough they’ll be able to get one of the best WR prospects in the past decade and the best offensive player in the draft.
13. Henry Ruggs III – WR – Alabama – 49ers (Via Colts)
After Emmanuel Sanders left the 49ers need to find his replacement, luckily enough they’ll be able to get the fastest player in the past 3 drafts.
14. Tua Tagovailoa – QB – Alabama – Patriots (Via Buccaneers)*
After a highly unlikely coincidence happens, the Patriots trade up to get the successor for Tom Brady. Since the value isn’t there for the Buccaneers they trade back in order to acquire more picks.
15. Ceedee Lamb – WR – Oklahoma – Broncos
Even though they already have a top 12 Wide Receiver in Courtland Sutton, they need someone to pair with him. Getting someone like Ceedee will help Drew Lock emerge as a star in the league.
16. CJ Henderson – CB – Florida – Falcons
Playing against Michael Thomas, Emmanuel Sanders, DJ Moore, Chris Godwin and Mike Evans twice a year is extremely hard. Getting someone like Henderson, who’s the 2nd best cover corner in the draft will help them improve the secondary drastically.
17. Xavier McKinney – SAF – Alabama – Cowboys
After signing HaHa Clinton Dix in free agency, the Cowboys take the best safety in the draft to create an amazing safety duo.
18. Josh Jones – OT – Houston – Dolphins (Via Texans)
After improving the defense very well in the offseason the Dolphins need to protect their new franchise Quarterback. Although it’s a reach they’ll be able to fill a hole in their roster.
19. Jeff Gladney – CB – TCU – Raiders (Via Bears)
After trading Gareon Conley to the Texans midseason the Raiders cornerbacks have been very bad. Getting someone like Gladney will be amazing, especially considering the Raiders have to play Tyreek Hill twice a year and that Gladney is a very fast player.
20. Kristian Fulton – CB – LSU – Jaguars
After trading away both Jalen Ramsey and AJ Bouye, the Jaguars need a Cornerback desperately. Fulton is the 3rd best CB in the draft and he’ll make an immediate impact on the secondary.
21. Justin Jefferson – WR – LSU – Eagles
After having an awful performance by their Wide Receivers, the Eagles take the 4th best Wide Receiver in the draft to help out Carson Wentz.
22. Brandon Aiyuk – WR – Arizona State – Vikings (Via Bills)
After losing Stefon Diggs on a trade with the Bills, they get a new speedy and shifty Wide Receiver.
23. D’Andre Swift – RB – Georgia – Buccaneers (Via Patriots)*
After trading back to gain more picks, the Buccaneers take the best Running Back in the draft, to help Tom Brady and the rest of the offense.
24. Kenneth Murray – LB – Oklahoma – Saints
The Saints are in win now mode, getting a guy like Murray will help them improve the defense massively.
25. Yetur Gross-Matos – EDGE – Penn State – Seahawks (Via Vikings)*
The Seahawks are desperate for defensive help, getting someone like Yetur, who’s a warrior, will be a fantastic addition. But in order for that to happen they need to get in front of the Dolphins.
26. Antoine Winfield Jr – SAF – Minnesota – Dolphins (Via Texans)
After missing out on the 2nd best EDGE rusher in the draft, the Dolphins would rather get their replacement for Minkah Fitzpatrick by adding a ball hawker like Antoine Winfield Jr.
27. Jaylon Johnson – CB – Utah – Vikings
Last season one of the Vikings’ biggest liability was pass coverage. Even though it may be a little bit of a reach it fills one of the biggest holes in the roster.
28. Patrick Queen – LB – LSU – Ravens
The Ravens are very close to a championship, getting someone like Queen will help them in run support a lot. He’ll also be able to bring a lot of athleticism to that Linebacker corp.
29. K’Lavon Chaisson – EDGE – LSU – Titans
One of the biggest weaknesses for the Titans is pass rush and getting someone like K’Lavon at 29 might be the steal of the whole draft.
30. Tee Higgins – WR – Clemson – Packers
If the Packers want to win another Super Bowl before Rodgers retires, they need to give him another good receiver. Tee Higgins is a player with good frame and hands.
31. Jordan Love – QB – Utah State – Colts (Via 49ers)*
Let’s face it, Phillip Rivers is not the long term answer and the Colts need to get their future QB. Jordan Love could be a bust or the new Patrick Mahomes II and if there’s anyone around the league that can unleash his full potential is Frank Reich. The Colts will trade up in order to secure him.
32. AJ Terrell – CB – Clemson – Chiefs
The Super Bowl champions have a great defensive line and a great offense, but their Cornerback group isn’t very good. Getting someone like Terrell will help them stay at an elite level.
