Potential Eagles 2021 Draft Gems, Episode 6: Jah-Maine Martin

Going into the 2021 season, Philadelphia can look for that stud #2 running back, which would help out the run game even further and take the pressure off of Carson’s shoulders.

Today, I’ll introduce you to the best running back in FCS (Division 1AA): Jah-Maine Martin, the superstar from the historically black college of North Carolina A&T State University. The 5’11 214-pound redshirt-senior from Conway, South Carolina was one of the breakout players from the 2019 college football season. His production in 2018 was 98 carries, for 682 yards, 7 touchdowns, and 6.7 yards per carry. Last season, however, he got a massive increase of 187 carries, for 1,446 yards, 23 touchdowns, and 7.7 yards per carry.

Jah-Maine represented quite well in awards as well. In 2019, he was named 1st Team All-Meac, 2nd Team All-American (Associated Press and FCS Stats), and 1st Team All-American (Boxtoro and Hero Sports). As well from I at SSPS (Small_school_prospect_scouting) he was named my FCS RB of the year, and also was a 1st Team All-American. In 2020, Jah-Maine is a unanimous 1st Team All-American, Preseason All-Meac, Preseason offensive player of the year for the Meac.

What exactly does he bring to the table for the Eagles? If you look back at the 2016 Atlanta Falcons, the addition of Jah-Maine would be the Devonta Freeman to Miles Sanders, Tevin Coleman. Jah-Maine is a downhill runner that gives out punishment to the defenders. The acceleration and grittiness between the tackles is just a wow factor. One of the best things is he gets more powerful throughout the game while everyone else gets gassed, which fits well in the hard-nosed NFC East. He also has strong lower body strength helping him keep on turning his legs and driving for a few extra yards, which is a perfect compliment to Miles Sanders.

Last year, Miles showed Philadelphia what he is made of with his receiving ability, speed, and agility. The only thing I see with Miles is an east to west type runner who excels at it but isn’t going to win you short-yardage situations. Jah-Maine brings that extra dynamic making it a great one-two punch for the Eagles.

In the 2021 NFL Draft, the Eagles would have to use their 2nd or 3rd round selection to receive Martin. I think it’s well worth it for a great dual for years to come. Why not give the HBCU star a chance?
